Educational
Kits
Kits
have been developed to help teachers teach on the various topics in biotechnology.
These kits are 'adjustable' to length of time and depth of interest and
consist of Powerpoint lectures and a series of hands-on demonstrations.
How is the vast amount
of information about biotechnology conveyed and communicated to a broad
target audience? How is the information about biology, life, and
biotechnology made accessible to everyone? These questions are the challenges
to lifeedu. We have taken a 'downward diffusion' approach to education
in this area through the development of materials that will help teachers
enter this new area easily.
Downward
diffusion refers to the process of teaching advanced topics that will
explain the fundamentals. We have developed ‘educational kits’
that will help teachers develop their own customized lesson plans and
lectures that are based on the most accessible and up-to-date information
in the area. The ‘kits’ consist of lecture components
constructed according to the format established for the general materials
section (see The Way We Work With Life) comprised
of three main platforms;
(I) The mechanics of life
(II) Applications of biotechnology
(III) Ethical and social
concerns
The kits provide lectures on the various topics by contributing authors
to lifeedu. The lectures contain audio, video, and powerpoint components
that will help teachers can a background in the area, and provide the
materials that they can use to present to their classes or seminars.
Hands-on demonstrations for each section are suggested and provided.
We also offer conference calls with staff experts to answer questions
of assist with presentations. We also provide in depth workshops
to help assist with the transfer of information. These ‘kits’
are for all educational sectors.
